About me

I am (Barend) Adriaan Grobler, a botanist from the eastern Cape Floristic Region at the southern tip of Africa. I work as an independent consultant (registered Professional Natural Scientist), providing specialist advice and guidance on issues relating to plant species and the ecology of terrestrial ecosystems, particularly in the southern and southeastern regions of South Africa.

I am a research associate of the African Centre for Coastal Palaeoscience and Botany Department at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, South Africa. In this regard, I enjoy applying my knowledge of plants to the fields of vegetation science, ecology, biogeography and environmental history. Further interests of mine include the biology, ecology, evolution and conservation of rare and threatened plant species.

As an avid supporter of community science initiatives, I am involved with the Botanical Society of South Africa and the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers, and a frequent contributor to iNaturalist. I currently also serve as vice-chair of the Fynbos Forum.
